Statement of Intent
At St Bernards we understand that a high-quality computing education is essential for pupils to understand modern information and communication technologies (ICT), and for them to use these skills to become responsible, competent, confident and creative participants of an increasingly digital world.
Through computing lessons children will become more knowledgeable about information and use this to solve problems and develop skills. Our aims are:
- To develop capability and confidence in the individual use of a range of technologies and devices.
- To provide a range of experiences that will allow children at our school to develop their skills and then be able to embed their skills through their learning independently.
- To encourage the development of problem-solving skills and interactive approaches to learning.
- To enable pupils to take a greater responsibility for their own learning and provide opportunities for them to decide when it is appropriate to use ICT in their work. Computing will also provide opportunities for children to personalise their learning both in school and in the home environment.
- To ensure regular access of experiences to all children, including those with Special Educational Needs.
