Welcome to our school website.  Hopefully from navigating around it, you will gain a good understanding on how we pride ourselves at being unique, and a school where every child is valued and encouraged to do their very best.  Home, school and parish partnerships are paramount to this mission being fulfilled.  Together we follow in Christ’s footsteps together. 

St Bernard’s is part of Christ the Redeemer Parish and our church is St Ethelbert’s.  The Parish Priest, Fr Morrough, is a regular visitor into school and there is a school mass programme in place.  Parents and family are always welcome to join us.  The Sacramental Programme for Year 3 children is a joint programme with St Ethelbert’s School and the Parish.  The Parish Catechists lead this programme and deliver all sessions to the children.

We currently have 193 pupils on roll and have 7 single year group classes from Reception to Year 6.  KS1 classes are limited to 30 pupils, however in KS2 class size can increase to 32 pupils. 

Our Governing Body is extremely supportive and pro-active.  It has full membership and governors regularly visit school to carry out Learning Walks, ensuring that they all up to date with all current practices in school.  They also attend governor meetings and committee meeting each term.  In addition to this, there is a Governor Monitoring Group who meet with the headteacher monthly to ensure strategic development of the school remains a priority. 

The school Gift Team (Growing Together in Faith) is made up of pupils from Year 5 and Year 6, the pupils help to support the Catholic life of the school and support the development of the spiritual life of our school family.  There are a variety of clubs for pupils to take part in.  Pupils in Year 1 and Year 2 can become a member of the Cafod Club.  Year 4 pupils can become School Ambassadors and Year 6 pupils can take part in the Faith in Action Award. 

We have an active School Council and Eco team.  Representatives are chosen by the pupils from Year 1 to Year 6.   The children meet regularly and are involved in making decisions / changes for the benefit of all pupils in school. 

There is a wide variety of after school clubs on offer run by school staff and Key PE sport staff.  The clubs change throughout the year according to the weather and team events being run by Bolton interschool. 

Bolton music service offer a wide variety of music tuition including: brass, strings, keyboard, drumming and guitar.  Pupils taking part in these lessons love to share their talents with the whole school at special performances. 

Workshops and trips for each class are well planned to support the curriculum and enrich learning further.   

Our new Reception pupils have a transition programme in the summer term, new pupils visit for two afternoon sessions.  Prior to this, there is a meeting for parents.  In autumn term, we have an open evening and open sessions for prospective parents to visit and see the school in action.
