        Sports Premium Grant

The sports premium was a new Government initiative from 2013 and like PPG it is additional funding that the school receives specifically for the development of PE and sport for all pupils in the school.

SPORTS PREMIUM SPENDING 2016-2017

Allocation: £ 8662

How we spend it:

  • We pay for Mr Cartwright a highly skilled and experienced PE teacher from St Joseph’s High School to come in every Monday and Tuesday afternoons to deliver high quality PE sessions to Y1-Y6.
  • Mr Cartwright also delivers a sport based after-school club each day. The sport focus changes each half term and covers from KS1 to KS2.
  • Mr Cartwright will also deliver a training session for staff every term.

Impact on sport participation and attainment

  • Pupils receive high quality coaching on a range of sports in addition to advice and guidance on fitness training.
  • Attainment is good across the school and high attendance to after-school sport provision.

2015-2016 Sports Premium

Allocation: £ 8662

How we spent the sports premium

Following evaluation of impact from 2014-2015 Mr Cartwright’s sessions were increased to Monday and Tuesday afternoons. Mr Cartwright taught every class from Y1-Y6 on those afternoons. He also delivered an after school sports club on each day ensuring a rotation of different sports and sport skills.

In addition to Mr Cartwright’s sessions we also funded a specialist PE session on Fridays for pupils with coordination, PE interaction and gross motor skills difficulties. This provision is delivered by Elite Coaching who already work successfully with the school providing before school sport provision (daily ‘Sporting Breakfast’ club).

Summary report

  • Mr Cartwright’s session have allowed the children to learn new skills and try new sports such as rugby and cricket. The children have thoroughly enjoyed these and it also has helped with transition to St Joseph’s for our Y6 pupils.
  • Staff have also benefitted from watching a PE specialist so their PE sessions can be further developed.
  • Mr Cartwright has coached the school football team and this has also raised the profile of sport across the school.
  • The specialist PE session on Fridays by Elite Coaching has allowed children who can find PE sessions very challenging to gain confidence and skill within a smaller group session tailored to their specific needs.

Plans for next year 2016-2017

  • We will receive £8662 next year and have confirmed with Mr Cartwright to continue next year delivering the same sessions.
  • Mr Cartwright will also deliver a training session for staff every term.
  • We will be continuing with the Elite specialist session on Fridays based on the success this year.
  • We will be finalising a plan for these additional and different sporting activities this term.

2014-2015 Sports Premium

This year we received £8500 and on the strength of the external coaching team we funded in 2013-2014 ‘One Goal’ we decided to continue with this provision. ‘One Goal’ provide weekly PE sessions in Y1 and Y4 as well as a KS2 dinnertime sports club and after school sports club that rotates with different year groups over the year. ‘One Goal’ currently work in many schools across Bolton and the north west. They provide qualified coaches who comply with all our Safeguarding protocols.

In addition to ‘One Goal’ we have also been able to fund Mr Cartwright (PE teacher at St Joseph’s RC High School) for an afternoon per week. Mr Cartwright is a fully qualified and experienced PE teacher and coach who provides high quality PE sessions. This year Mr Cartwright is working with Y5 and Y6 each week and providing an after-school football training sessions then in the spring and summer terms his changed to basketball, cricket and athletics.

In addition to this external provision coming into school each week the school has purchased ‘Cyber Coach’ which is a PE programme for all classes to use via interactive whiteboards. Class teachers use this resource regularly in school to develop coordination, balance and physical activity and in can be used safely and effectively in classes.

  • Funding of a One Goal Coach every Monday afternoon from 12-4pm
  • Funding of Mr Cartwright/PE teacher every Tuesday afternoon 1-4pm
  • Funding of license for ‘Cyber Coach’ for every class as key PE resource
